Hydroponic Gardens Completed

Hydroponic Gardens Completed

Los Vaqueros and Green Our Planet’s partnership to build an additional 7 hydroponic gardens was completed on April 18, 2018.  The gardens were delivered to the following schools (in alphabetical order):

John A. Dooley Elementary School

Theron H. & Naomi D. Goynes Elementary School

J.E. Manch Elementary School

Richard J. Rundle Elementary School

Tony Alamo Elementary School

Ulis Newton Elementary School

Virgin Valley Elementary School

The total number of schools participating with Green Our Planet’s hydroponic curriculum as a result of Los Vaqueros’ building the hydroponic gardens is now 17.

These schools have begun using their harvests for chef-to-school demonstrations, occasionally for a Farmer’s Market on campus, and often times they send harvest home with kids in garden clubs or whose class grew the seeds at the beginning.  There have been some pretty prolific walls this year!

Special thanks to the Vaqueros who volunteered their time to get the garden built and to Green Our Planet.

April 28, 2018

Beautiful community volunteer effort this morning to place decorated paver stones into the Will Beckley Elementary School Garden.  Teachers, parents, students, businesses, and Vaqueros took part in placing tons of decomposed granite (donated by Vaqueros’ Billy Blackwell of Bilmar Companies,  www.bilmarcompanies.com) and paver stones that were decorated by Beckley students.  The garden is doing very well and the students are excited to return to school Monday with the new walking space!  Special thanks to Vaqueros’ that donated material, provided tools, and came out to volunteer:

Hydroponic Garden Systems – The Sequel

Hydroponic Garden Systems – The Sequel

In addition to donating time and money to children’s education programs and military families throughout Southern Nevada, Los Vaqueros also builds hydroponic garden systems in partnership with the Green Our Planet program. Hydroponic garden systems compliment Green Our Planet’s existing outdoor garden systems which can be found in over 120 Clark County schools and serve as an educational hydroponic education tool.

The initial 11 hydroponic garden systems were guided by the Green Our Planet’s Team Leaders assigned to each school. The team leaders and each school’s Garden Team enthusiasm, physical labors including hammering, drilling and cutting lumber and dedication to the program led to highly successful garden systems.

On March 24, 2018 the Los Vaqueros team worked together to construct another seven hydroponic garden systems. The day’s activities were incident and accident free with each system ready for mounting lights and garden systems, which will be installed next week.

Vegas Charity Events – School Garden Project at Gene Ward Elementary

Teaming up with Project Dinner Table and The Junior League of Las Vegas, Los Vaqueros joins in the efforts of expanding the outdoor learning space at Gene Ward Elementary. As part of the initiative, the teams install a fully irrigated pumpkin patch in order to provide the school with an additional revenue stream that doubles as a sustainable outdoor learning space for the children. This unique and valuable educational tool helps to build core skills through knowledge, discovery, curiosity and nutrition.
